Nitrogen plant explosion in the U.S., 1 Person Killed and Others Injured 7

Louisiana - An explosion occurred at the plant nitrogen in Louisiana, USA. One worker was killed and seven other workers were injured in the incident.

According to Reuters, as reported on Saturday (15/06/2013), the explosion hit the plant named DF Industries in Donaldsonville area, a small port town that is near the Mississippi River. The manufacturer explained that the explosion occurred on Friday (14/6) night, after a nitrogen tank exploded.

Police officers from the State of Louisiana, Jared Sandifer, said that one person was killed instantly by the blast. While as many as 7 other people were injured, whether mild or severe. The wounded were rushed to a nearby hospital.

"The workers were filling a tank with nitrogen. Apparently there is excessive pressure, so that the tank exploded, and trigger injuries and deaths," said Sandifer.

"Because the contents of nitrogen, then there is absolutely no fire, just a blast, like a balloon voice erupted," he added.

Parties to CF Industries said there was no release of chemicals in the incident. Thus, there is no danger to the environment and the people living there near the scene.

"An investigation into the cause of the incident is still done. We truly mourn the death of one of our workers," the statement CF Industries.

Each year, CF Industries manufactures and shipped about 5 million tons of ammonia and other nitrogen fertilizer needs of agriculture and industry in some parts of the United States. This factory was built in the 1960s and located in the city which has a population of 8,000 people Donaldsonville.
