Unrest in China Kills 21 People Including Police

Beijing - As many as 21 people were killed in riots in the Xinjiang region of China. The dead included several police officers and social workers.

"In total, 21 people were killed ... including social workers and police," said the man surnamed Cao, who is a local government agency officials as reported by AFP news agency on Wednesday (04/24/2013).

According to the state-run news website, Tianshan Net, clashes took place in the Bachu area, in the western province of Xinjiang. The incident occurred after police searched the homes of local residents who allegedly had a gun.

The media described it as a "terrorist incident".

Noted that 15 of the casualties are police and social workers. A total of 11 out of 15 people are from ethnic minority Uighurs, who mostly live in Xinjiang.

In addition it was reported, six "gang members" also shot dead in the incident. But no mention of their identity.
