Serie A Duo Circle Arsenal Target
Arsenal scouts have been watching Torino defender Angelo Obgonna but the news from Italy is that two of Serie A’s big guns are preparing summer bids for the 24-year-old.
Ogbonna has established himself as one of Serie A’s top centre-backs
this season after being part of the Torino side which won promotion last
season. Manchester United were watching him prior to an injury setback in December which saw Ogbonna ruled out for two months but Torino’s local rivals Juventus
appear to have stolen a march on the rest of his suitors. Reports from
Italy claim that Juventus director Fabio Paratici has already met with
representatives of Ogbonna to talk over a summer move across Turin.
Juventus were also linked with Ogbonna earlier this season, but mindful
of the rivalry between the two clubs the defender played down the link.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport claims Napoli are also interested and are willing to offer Omar El Kaddouri, Federico Fernandez or Eduardo Vargas in part-exchange.
Vermaelen Plays Down Barca Link
Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen says he has heard nothing from Barcelona and that he wants to win back his place in the Arsenal first team.
Vermaelen has been linked with interest from Barcelona and there are
claims that his form has dropped since the Catalan side showed an
interest although he says there has been no contact from the La Liga
leaders.
“There’s nothing I have heard so I can’t say any more about that,” he told Sky Sports News.
The Belgium international was dropped for Arsenal’s games with Bayern Munich and Swansea City but he says that’s all part of being at a top club.
“Of course I want to play every game, but you are playing for a big club so you know this sort of thing can happen.
“It has happened before and I am not worried too much. I am working hard every day to do well.”
Griezmann Wants Real Sociedad Stay
Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann
has played down the prospect of a move away from the Spanish club. The
France Under-21 international celebrated his 22nd birthday with his
family yesterday, but despite being linked with interest from Arsenal,
Barcelona and Spurs he claims he wants to spend many more birthdays at
Real Sociedad.
“I enjoy it here at Real and hopefully I can play a lot more games and score many more goals,” he told Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo.
“I have had eight birthdays here and each year has been better than the last year.”
The France Under-21 international came up through the youth system at
the Basque side after he was spotted at the age of 14 playing in a
trial game for Montpellier. He made his debut for Real in 2009 and has
notched up 140 league appearances for the club.
The Daily Express claims today that the Gunners are interested but Griezmann claims a move is far from his mind at the moment.
Real lie in fourth place in La Liga with a realistic chance of
qualifying for the Champions League and Griezmann says the chance of
playing in Europe’s top competition with Real is something that appeals
to him.
“My best gift would be to play in the Champions League with Real. It is a dream and we can get it.
“Hopefully I can celebrate more birthdays in this shirt. I am at ease and enjoying it, so why not.”
