8 story building collapses in Bangladesh, 82 People Killed and 700 Injured

Dhaka - At least 82 people were killed after an eight-storey building collapsed in the outskirts of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh today. About 700 people were injured in the incident.

"The death toll is now 82 people. Least 700 people were also being treated in hospital," said Hiralal Roy, a senior doctor at the hospital emergency room six, as reported by AFP on Wednesday (04/24/2013).

The incident occurred at about 9 am local time. In the 8-story building in the town of Savar, outskirts of Dhaka, located several garment factories.

Until now rescue workers are still on the scene to find people who might still be trapped rubble.

Previously, the local police chief M. Asaduzzaman said the situation was dangerous and at least 100 people are feared trapped under the debris.

The incidence of collapsed buildings often occur in Bangladesh as the developers who often violate building codes on the construction of government buildings. More than 70 people have died after a multi-storey garment factory collapsed in 2005. Then in November 2012, seidkitnya 13 people were killed after a flyover under construction, collapsed in the city of Chittagong.
