Angelina Jolie's aunt loses battle with breast cancer weeks after mastectomy

The 'Changeling' actress's aunt passed away on Sunday morning, her uncle told E! News. Jolie already lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, to ovarian cancer in 2007.

Angelina Jolie sent her love and support to her family after the death of her aunt Debbie Martin to breast cancer. Jolie has revealed she had a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of getting the disease herself.

Angelina Jolie has lost another family member to cancer.

Just weeks after revealing she had a preventative double mastectomy to reduce her risk of breast cancer, the "Changeling" actress has lost her aunt to the disease.

According to E! News, the Oscar winner's uncle Ron Martin said that his wife, Debbie Martin, passed away Sunday.

"Angelina has been in touch throughout the week and her brother Jamie has been with us, giving his support day by day," Martin told the website.

"They both loved Debbie very much, and although Angie is not able to come right now she has sent her love and support which was very nice."

Jolie, 37, explained in a New York Times op-ed that she discovered that she an 87% chance of developing breast cancer and a 50% risk of getting ovarian cancer. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian cancer in 2007.

After her surgery, Jolie said her risk of developing breast cancer has dropped to less than 5%.

"I can tell my children that they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer," she wrote.

Martin told E! News that he and his wife were "very proud" of Jolie's decision to have the drastic surgery, to "keep her family from having to go through what we've been through."

The "Salt" star's partner and father of her six children, Brad Pitt, 49, also heralded the decision as "absolutely heroic."

According to Martin, Jolie's father, actor Jon Voight, also recently visited his wife in the hospital.

"I know Debbie really enjoyed seeing him and talking with him," he said.
